CONCEPT
Our concept is based on five main points: to maintain the main inputs to the city; to move the railway outside the urban fabric; to put the green networks near the principal vehicular streets; to maintain A large park in the heart of the city; to use a grid that recall the ancient Roman grid and identify the “nodes” in the centre position of the neighbourhoods where to place the main social functions. For access to the city we decided to keep the Via Giardini and we decided to give more importance with the addition of large walkways and in the central part where they were born commercial and public activities and collective functions. The other ways that we decided to keep are those intended for Sassuolo to maintain a way of secondary industrial access and the road from Castelnuovo (Via Sant ‘Antonio) that crossing Formigine and connects with the near villages. Another focus of our project is moving the railway outside the urban station for not having a “split” of the city. Positioning the green path near the principal vehicular streets to obtain more comfort and to define the 5 district. We also wanted to maintain a large park in Formigine because there was a large central park “Villa Gandini” symbol of the city and we connected even more with
the social heart of the new city. The use of a grid, with a reference to the ancient “Ro- man Formigine”, on which we have identified the main streets and their intersections we put the our main functions.
THE HOUSE TYPOLOGIES
For the project we used four house typologies: the SINGLE HOUSE has a surface of 10 x 10 meters and two levels; the SEMIDETACHED HOUSE has a surface of 15 x 10 meters and two levels; the TWIN HOUSE is a modular typology because, from a minimum of 3 blocks, it can have many modules. the RESIDENTIAL BUILDING (LINE) has a surface of 10 x 25 meters –and four levels but in some cases the first level have a commercial use.
STANDARDS
Following the Italian National Code ( D.M. 1444/1968) we considered these STANDARDS for each district:
Green: 9 m2 / inh
Education: 4,5 m2 / inh
Parking: 2,5 m2 / inh
Buildings for social uses: 2 m2 / inh
DISTRICTS
DISTRICT 1 has extended in terms of surface. It is characterized by a part of the city centre buildings, 4 green open spaces, a church, schools, buildings for social uses an the main market. DISTRICT 2 has a big surface extension . It is characterized by 4 green open spaces, schools, a church, social building and a big market. DISTRICT 3 has a small surface extension and is the centre of the project. This district has a many collective building , the train station and is connected with the park. DISTRICT 4 has a medium surface extension. It is characterized by the presence of 3 green open spaces, primary and secondary schools, a church and social buildings. DISTRICT 5 has a medium-large surface extension. It is characterized by the presence of 3 green open spaces, primary and secondary schools, a church, some buildings for social uses and some of the city centre buildings. INDUSTRIAL AREA is positioned near the main roads for Sassuolo and near the railway for to improve the distribution.
MOBILITY SISTEM
The mobility system consists of an outer and inner ones. The external system has a tangential street of 70 km/h running around the city and some streets of 50 km/h connecting the city with the adjacent. The inner mobility system consists of streets of 15 - 30 - 50 km/h - they become step-by-step of minor velocity going from the outside to the inside of each district- which have mixed traffic, permitting the circulation of vehicles, cycles and pedestrians. The public transport is organized in a bus line (red) that across the centre of the city. The other main public transport is the train that connect Sassuolo-Modena and have a train station in the centre of “new Formigine” and is linked at the social centre of the city with a large pedestrian area. Inside the ecological network is present a walk path that across every city parts. The Giardini roads is a real public space where people can meet and walk, we decided to create a pedestrian area in the core of the city, where the main public functions take place.
